Is YouTube inserting ads mid-video without pausing content?

Has anyone else noticed this new YouTube ad format?

I was watching a video on YouTube when something unexpected happened. The video kept playing, but it suddenly went silent. At the same time, an advertisement popped up next to the video! It didn’t pause the main content, just muted it.

What’s even more frustrating is that some of these ads can’t be skipped. You have to wait for them to finish before the sound comes back on the main video.

This seems like a pretty aggressive tactic from YouTube. I’m worried it might ruin the viewing experience. Has this happened to anyone else? What do you think about this new ad strategy? Is there any way to avoid it?

I’ve noticed this ad format too, and it’s quite frustrating. YouTube seems to be pushing the boundaries of what users will tolerate. While I understand they need to generate revenue, this approach feels particularly intrusive.

From my experience, these ads tend to appear more frequently on popular channels and trending videos. It’s as if YouTube is capitalizing on content they know people are eager to watch.

One strategy I’ve found somewhat effective is to reload the video immediately when an ad starts. Sometimes this bypasses the ad entirely. It’s not foolproof, but it’s worth a try if you’re finding the interruptions unbearable.

Ultimately, this tactic may backfire for YouTube. If viewer experience continues to deteriorate, people might start seeking out alternative platforms or resorting to more aggressive ad-blocking measures.

I’ve definitely encountered this new ad format recently, and it’s been quite disruptive to my viewing experience. It seems YouTube is constantly experimenting with new ways to monetize content, often at the expense of user satisfaction.

From what I’ve observed, these mid-roll ads without pausing are more common on longer videos, especially those over 10 minutes. They appear to be testing the waters to see how much advertising viewers will tolerate before abandoning the platform.

One workaround I’ve found is using a good ad-blocker, though YouTube is always trying to circumvent these. Another option is subscribing to YouTube Premium, but that comes with its own cost considerations.

Ultimately, I think YouTube needs to strike a better balance between monetization and user experience. These intrusive ads risk driving viewers away to alternative platforms that offer a more seamless viewing experience.

yo, ive seen this too! its super annoying. youtube’s gettin greedy af. i tried refreshing when ads pop up, sometimes it works. but man, its ruining my vids. might have to find another place to watch stuff if they keep this up. anyone know any good alternatives?
