JIRA/Greenhopper: Customizing Fields in the 'Create Sub-task' Window

When using Greenhopper on the Task Board, I select a parent task and click the gear icon to open the sub-task creation window. The popup is designed to add sub-tasks or related items, and I’m curious if there is a configuration option to modify which fields appear on this form.

In my experience, the customization options for the sub-task creation popup in Greenhopper are limited. The fields available are governed primarily by the underlying screen configuration for sub-task issue types. I found that while it is possible to modify screens and associated schemes from the Jira settings, the popup itself does not offer direct customization. Therefore, any desired changes need to be applied globally to the sub-task issue type. Testing in a separate environment is advisable before applying any change in a production system.

Having spent a good amount of time exploring various JIRA configurations, I’ve noticed that while the sub-task popup does not offer direct customization of its fields, some adjustments are possible through JIRA’s reusable screens and schemes. In your situation, modifying the underlying screen configuration for the sub-task issue type seems to be the only effective method. This was my approach as well, and although it introduced some complexities when aligning settings across different projects, it eventually provided a standardized solution. Experimentation in a test environment was key to fine-tuning this process.

i found that you cant really tweak the popup directly. you have to change the screen config for subtask issues. it ain’t the best but works well for our needs. try it on a test project first tho.
