Learning resources for HubSpot free tier only - no premium features

I’m thinking about fully committing to HubSpot but I keep running into a frustrating problem. Every time I watch a tutorial or guide, they show these amazing features that look super useful. Then I get excited and try to find them in my account, only to discover they cost thousands of dollars per year to access.

Does anyone know of any learning materials, YouTube channels, or courses that focus specifically on what you can actually do with the free starter tier? I’d also love to hear about any clever tricks or workarounds that help you get more value from the basic plan without having to upgrade to those expensive professional packages.

Basically I want to avoid getting my hopes up about features I can’t afford and focus on mastering what’s actually available to me right now.

honestly, hubspot’s free crm is solid if you know its limits. I’ve used it for almost 2 years - contact management and basic email tracking work fine for most small businesses. don’t expect fancy automation or detailed reports, but you can build decent workflows with what they give you.

I faced similar frustrations with HubSpot when I first started out. The HubSpot Academy was invaluable for me; it allows you to filter for courses that focus solely on the free tools available. They provide clear explanations about what you can achieve with the free version, without getting distracted by the premium features. I found that the free CRM is quite effective for small businesses if you properly configure your deal stages and utilize the basic email features. Additionally, I linked the free forms to Zapier, which significantly broadened my capabilities without incurring additional costs. While the reporting features may not be advanced, they still offer useful insights. It took me several months to fully understand the free tier, after which I could discern which premium features might be worth considering.

Manage expectations upfront. I used HubSpot’s free tier for six months before upgrading anything. Focus on the contact database and basic email sequences first - they’ll handle serious lead nurturing if you set them up right. The free marketing tools work great for content management and simple lead capture forms. Skip third-party tutorials and use HubSpot’s own docs instead - they clearly show what’s free vs. paid. You’ll hit contact limits eventually, but most startups don’t need to worry about that early on. Max out the free stuff first, then you’ll know which premium features are worth paying for vs. just nice extras.
