Looking for a Free Alternative to Airtable

Hello Community,

I recently suggested to my company the idea of purchasing a team license to streamline my projects, but they rejected the proposal due to budget concerns. Now, I’m exploring free options that could serve as substitutes for Airtable, or perhaps a way to implement similar features using Google Sheets (since Excel crashes frequently on my Mac). I would appreciate any recommendations or insights into viable alternatives.

hey, i’ve been using notion free for a while now. not exactly airtable, but its flexible enough for our projects. also, tinkering with google sheets can get you far. hope this helps!

hey, have u looked at seatable? its pretty slick, free to use and offers a grid interface much like airtable. i found it works smooth and low in excess features, so it helps keep projects simple if you’re on a tight budget.

Having tried a variety of solutions, I recommend considering open source alternatives like NocoDB or Baserow. I experimented with NocoDB and found it to be quite effective as it allows you to convert your existing databases into a platform similar to Airtable. For smaller projects, adapting Google Sheets with custom scripts can also mimic some of the functionality. These options cost nothing and have the community support needed to handle basic project management tasks without the licensing overhead.

I have also been in a position where budget constraints required creative solutions, and based on personal experience, using Google Sheets as a foundation can be quite effective. I ended up creating a series of custom scripts to handle data linking and lightweight automation that somewhat mimicked Airtable’s relational databases. While it took more initial effort and the interface isn’t as intuitive as Airtable, the flexibility it offers in terms of integration with other free tools was a major advantage for my team. It’s a viable solution if you’re willing to invest some time into customization.
