Hey everyone! I’m searching for good replacements for JIRA and Confluence. The main reason is that I really don’t like JIRA’s interface - it feels too much like old Java applications to me. The design just doesn’t work for me.
I’ve tried PivotalTracker and really enjoyed it for managing new projects. The interface was clean and easy to use. Now I’m wondering what other tools are out there that you folks recommend.
I need something for project management and maybe documentation too (like what Confluence does). What are your favorite alternatives? Looking for tools with better user experience and modern design. Thanks for any suggestions!
i totally get the jira hate - feels like working in 2005 lol. we moved to Height recently and it’s been amazing. super clean ui and handles both project tracking and basic docs. way faster than jira too.
also tried Coda which is interesting since it combines project management with wiki-style documentation in one tool. might be worth checking out if you don’t want separate apps.
Switched from JIRA to Linear 8 months ago - best decision ever. The interface is clean and fast, no more clunky Java nonsense. Linear’s obsessed with performance and it shows, especially on big projects. I use Notion alongside it for docs and project notes. Works perfectly since Notion’s databases can link straight to Linear issues. ClickUp’s another solid option if you want everything in one place, though it’s pretty overwhelming at first. Biggest difference? My team actually wanted to use these tools instead of fighting them like they did with JIRA.
Been through this exact transition two years ago when we finally ditched JIRA. Went with Monday.com for project management and GitBook for docs. Monday’s visual approach completely changed how we track work - the kanban boards actually make sense and timeline views help with planning. GitBook replaced our Confluence mess perfectly. Way cleaner for technical docs and integrates well with our dev workflow. Tested Asana briefly too - solid project features but Monday’s more intuitive for dev teams. The key difference? These tools feel designed for humans, not enterprise bureaucracy. Setup took two days versus the weeks we wasted configuring JIRA.
