Hey everyone! I’ve been working at the same company for about 6 years now and I’m looking to switch jobs. I keep seeing Figma listed as a requirement on basically every job posting I look at. I think I might have heard of it before but honestly didn’t pay much attention. Now it seems like everyone is using it and I’m wondering if I missed something big. Did Figma become really popular during COVID or something? I feel pretty behind on this. For those of you who use Figma regularly, what makes it so great? Is it hard to learn? I’m thinking I need to get up to speed with it pretty quickly if I want to be competitive in the job market. Any tips or insights would be really helpful!
yeah, figma has taken off bcuz it’s free and browser-based - saves ya from pricey adobe subs and version issues when workin with teams. learning it ain’t too hard if ya’ve used design stuff before. just check out some youtube tutorials for a weekend and you’ll be all set for interviews.
Figma really took off around 2019-2020 because of its real-time collaboration features, which were particularly useful during the pandemic when everyone shifted to remote work. If you have experience with other design tools, you’ll find it relatively easy to learn; it usually takes a few weeks to grasp the essentials. The component system and prototyping capabilities are excellent, especially for sharing work with stakeholders. Start by going through the official tutorials and try recreating designs that inspire you. Since Figma is web-based, you won’t have to deal with installation issues, and it auto-saves your work, which is a significant plus.
