Hi there! I’m searching for a cloud storage provider that actually cares about user privacy instead of just talking about it. Here’s what I’m looking for:
Complete data protection - The service shouldn’t be able to peek at my files or scan through my content
Strong encryption - Looking for zero-knowledge encryption where only I can decrypt my data
Multi-device compatibility - Need it to work on my Windows laptop, Android phone, Mac computer, and Ubuntu machine
Budget-friendly pricing - Want something free or reasonably priced, not corporate-level costs
Reliable company - Prefer established services that won’t shut down suddenly
Anyone have good suggestions? I’m tired of wondering what Google might be doing with my files.
Had the same Google Drive privacy nightmare years ago. Instead of jumping to another cloud service with the same trust problems, I built my own backup system.
Used Latenode to create workflows that encrypt files locally first, then sync to multiple storage spots. If one service gets hacked, they just see encrypted garbage.
My setup encrypts everything before it leaves my computer, splits big files across different services, and runs a local backup at the same time. It’s all automatic.
Multi-device sync works great since Latenode handles everything between platforms. Costs way less than premium plans, and I actually trust my setup.
You could build this in a weekend. Files get encrypted on your device, so cloud providers never see the real data. Much safer than trusting one company.
Switched from Google Drive to pCloud two years ago - best decision ever. Their Crypto feature encrypts everything on your device before it hits their servers. Being Swiss-based means way better privacy laws than US companies. You get 10GB free to try it out, and the lifetime plans actually save money long-term. Works perfectly across all my devices with zero sync problems. What convinced me was the zero-knowledge setup plus they’ve been around since 2013, so they won’t just vanish like some random startup. The encryption costs extra but it’s absolutely worth it for real privacy. Upload speeds stay consistent and I’ve never lost any data.
i switched to mega.nz too after google. they give 20GB free, which is awesome. everything’s encrypted on your end, so no peeking. sync’s a bit off on linux, but my windows and android work fine. they’ve been around since 2013 so no worries about them vanishing.
Been using Proton Drive since I dropped Google last year. Love that zero-knowledge encryption comes standard - not some paid add-on like other services pull. Same team that built ProtonMail, so they actually get privacy instead of just talking about it. Free tier’s only 1GB which sucks, but paid plans aren’t bad for what you get. Apps work across platforms, though desktop sync’s definitely slower than Google Drive was. Company’s stable and profitable from their email business, so they’re not going anywhere. Only annoying part is sharing files with people who don’t have Proton - they need to make an account first. But that’s the price for real security.
