I’ve been thinking about building a more complex WebKit automation where one bot crawls a site, another extracts structured data, and a third validates the output format. The appeal is that each agent specializes—the crawler focuses on navigation, the extractor on data parsing, and the validator on quality checks.
But I’m skeptical about whether splitting the work actually reduces overhead or if it just adds coordination complexity. Instead of one bot doing everything, now I’m managing three bots, three state handoffs, error handling across multiple agents, and making sure they talk to each other correctly.
Has anyone actually built multi-agent WebKit workflows and gotten wins from splitting the work? Or does the coordination overhead eat up the gains from specialization? I want to know if this is a real optimization or if I’m just adding complexity for the sake of it.
Also, if you’ve tried this, when did you realize it was actually worth the extra complexity?
Multi-agent workflows reduce overhead when each agent handles a fundamentally different failure mode. This is important: you’re not splitting for the sake of splitting. You’re splitting because the crawl, extraction, and validation steps have different retry logic, different data dependencies, and different success criteria.
One crawler can fail and retry without blocking the validation logic. One extractor can regenerate outputs without recrawling. That isolation is the win.
I built a scraper for competitor pricing across fifty sites. Tried single agent first, hit timeout and data validation issues. Split into three agents: navigation, parsing, and quality checks. The single agent needed to retry the whole workflow when validation failed. The three-agent setup retried only the validation, then only the extraction on the second failure. Cost dropped 40%, reliability went up.

Map out your failure modes first. If they’re genuinely separate—network timeouts for crawling, parsing errors for extraction, format errors for validation—then splitting makes sense. If they’re all interconnected, keep it simple.
