Recommended tutorials for understanding Jira architecture and components?

I’m looking for some good learning resources to help me understand how Jira is structured and organized. I need to get familiar with the different parts of Jira like projects, issues, workflows, and how they all connect together.

I’m pretty new to Jira and my team just started using it for project management. My manager wants me to learn the basics so I can help set up our workspace properly. I’ve tried reading the official documentation but it’s kind of overwhelming and hard to follow.

Has anyone found any good online courses or video tutorials that explain Jira structures in a beginner-friendly way? I prefer learning through videos rather than just reading text. Free resources would be great but I’m also open to paid courses if they’re really worth it.

Any recommendations would be super helpful!

When I started with Jira admin, Atlassian University’s learning paths beat random tutorials hands down. They walk you through projects, issue types, and workflows in an order that actually makes sense. The big lightbulb moment for me was realizing everything flows from the project level down - projects contain issue types, issue types follow workflows, and suddenly it all clicks. If you’ve got budget, check out Joe Colantonio’s Test Guild courses too. His custom fields and screen schemes explanations saved me hours of headaches setting up our workspace.

YouTube worked best for me lol. Search “jira beginner tutorial 2024” and you’ll get tons of step-by-step guides. Found this one guy who mapped out the entire workflow before touching Jira - made setup way easier. Don’t feel bad about the official docs being overwhelming, they’re written for people who already know what they’re doing!

Jira’s structure definitely feels overwhelming at first. I’d start with Atlassian’s free “Jira Fundamentals” course - it breaks down the complex stuff with lots of visuals. The “Jira Guy” YouTube channel is also great for seeing actual demos of how everything works. Here’s what really helped me: set up a test project and mess around with it while you’re watching tutorials. You’ll pick things up way faster when you’re actually clicking through it yourself.
