Request to Shopify: Help small businesses with payment options

Hey Shopify community,

I’m reaching out on behalf of small business owners like myself who are finding it tough to handle credit card fees, particularly for wholesale customers who already get discounts. We really need a more affordable way to process payments.

It would be amazing if Shopify could offer ACH payment options for those of us on lower-tier plans. The Plus plan is just too expensive for many small businesses to consider.

Does anyone else feel the same way? If so, let’s start a conversation about this. How are you dealing with payment processing fees? What solutions would you like to see?

I’m hoping we can work together to find a way to keep our small businesses thriving. Any thoughts or experiences to share?

yea, i feel ya. these fees are killin us small shops. i’ve been tryin to get customers to use e-checks, but it’s a hassle. maybe we could team up and bug shopify about it? strength in numbers, right? anyone else got tricks to dodge these fees without losin customers?

As a small business owner, I’ve grappled with this issue too. Credit card fees can indeed eat into profits, especially for wholesale transactions. While Shopify’s lack of ACH options for lower-tier plans is frustrating, I’ve found some workarounds.

One effective strategy has been to offer a cash discount program. It’s legal in most states and incentivizes customers to pay by check or bank transfer. This has significantly reduced our processing fees.

Another approach is to use a separate payment processor for wholesale orders. Some offer lower rates for B2B transactions, which can make a big difference.

Ultimately, Shopify needs to address this gap in their service. Perhaps a middle-ground solution, like offering ACH for an additional fee (but less than Plus), could work. In the meantime, we need to be creative and vocal about our needs as small business owners.

man, i feel ur pain. cc fees r brutal. i’ve been tryin to push bank transfers for my wholesale peeps. it’s not perfect but it helps. maybe we could all hit up shopify support? if enough of us complain, they might listen. anyone else got creative ways to dodge these fees?

totally agree! credit card fees are killin us small biz owners. i’ve been lookin into other payment options but nothin beats the convenience of shopify. maybe we could start a petition or somethin to get their attention? anyone else up for that? we gotta stick together on this one

I hear you on the credit card fees struggle. Been there, done that. In my experience, offering a small discount for bank transfers has worked wonders. It’s not perfect, but it’s helped ease the burden.

Have you considered third-party ACH solutions? They integrate with Shopify and can be more cost-effective than waiting for official support. I’ve had success with Authorize.net’s eCheck option.

Another tactic that’s worked for me is building the fees into pricing for wholesale customers. It’s a delicate balance, but most understand when you explain the reasoning.

Ultimately, I think Shopify needs to step up here. Maybe a tiered approach based on business size? Until then, we’ve got to get creative. Anyone else found clever workarounds?
