Secure, cross-platform file storage with offline capabilities: Alternatives to popular cloud services?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a file storage solution that’s similar to the big names out there, but with some specific features. Here’s what I need:

  • Enterprise-level security for storing sensitive docs
  • Ability to access files offline
  • Built-in encryption for added protection
  • Works on mobile (both iOS and Android) and ideally desktop too

I know the usual suspects like Google Drive offer some of this stuff, but I’m curious if there are other options out there. Maybe some lesser-known apps or SDKs that tick all these boxes?

Has anyone come across something like this? Or have any recommendations? I’d really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share.

Thanks in advance for your help!

hey, check out nextcloud. its like ur own personal cloud. u can host it urself or use a provider. it’s got the security stuff, offline access, and works on pretty much everything. plus, u can add more features with plugins. might be worth a look if ur tech-savvy.

I’ve been using Tresorit for a while now, and it checks all the boxes you mentioned. The security is top-notch with end-to-end encryption, and it’s designed for business use. What I really like is the seamless offline access - you can mark files for offline use, and they sync automatically when you’re back online.

The mobile apps for iOS and Android are robust, and the desktop client works great too. One feature that’s been a lifesaver for me is the ability to set expiration dates on shared links. It’s pricier than some alternatives, but for the peace of mind and features, it’s worth it in my opinion.

Just a heads up, the interface took a bit of getting used to at first, but once you’re familiar with it, it’s quite intuitive. Hope this helps in your search!

Have you considered Sync.com? It’s a solid option that meets your requirements. I’ve been using it for about a year now, and it’s been reliable. The zero-knowledge encryption is a standout feature - even Sync.com can’t access your files. Offline access works smoothly, and the cross-platform support is excellent. I use it on my iPhone, Android tablet, and Windows PC without issues. The interface is straightforward, which I appreciate. One thing to note: the free tier is limited, so you’ll likely need a paid plan for serious use. Overall, it’s a secure, user-friendly alternative to the big names in cloud storage.
