Seeking a user-friendly alternative to Google Drive and Photos with cloud backup

Hi folks,

I need some advice on finding a simple replacement for Google Drive and Photos. I’m after something that’s easy to use and lets me:

  • Store files and pictures in an organized way
  • Get to my stuff from my phone and computer
  • Automatically save photos from my phone
  • Back everything up to a cloud service (maybe Amazon, Microsoft, or even Google)

I want it to be pretty much hands-off once it’s set up. It should work well on different devices too.

I’ve checked out a few options like Synology and Dropbox, but I’m not sure what’s the best fit. I don’t want anything too complicated.

Has anyone here moved away from Google and found a good alternative? What’s working well for you?

Thanks for any tips!

I’ve been using Nextcloud for about two years now, and it’s been a game-changer for me. It’s open-source and gives you full control over your data, which was important to me after leaving Google’s ecosystem.

Setting it up was straightforward, and now it just works in the background. I can access all my files from any device, and the automatic photo backup from my phone is seamless. The web interface is clean and intuitive, making file organization a breeze.

For cloud backup, I use Backblaze B2 with Nextcloud. It’s affordable and integrates well. The whole system feels secure, and I sleep better knowing my data isn’t being mined for ads.

The mobile apps are solid, though occasionally a bit slower than Google’s. But the privacy trade-off is worth it for me. Plus, there’s a vibrant community for support if you ever need it.

Overall, it’s been a user-friendly solution that ticks all your boxes without the complexity of some other setups I’ve tried.

hey, i switched to icloud and its pretty good. works great with my iphone and mac. backs up pics automatically and syncs files across devices. easy to use and setup was a breeze. might be worth a look if ur in the apple ecosystem. just my 2 cents

I’ve found OneDrive to be a reliable alternative that meets your requirements. It integrates seamlessly with Windows devices and offers a user-friendly interface for file management. The automatic photo backup feature works well on mobile, and you can easily access your files across devices.

OneDrive provides ample storage space and uses Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure for backups, which is robust and secure. The file organization system is intuitive, allowing you to create folders and subfolders effortlessly.

One standout feature is its integration with Office apps, which can be a bonus if you use them. The mobile app is responsive and allows for easy file viewing and sharing.

While it may not be as feature-rich as some alternatives, its simplicity and reliability make it an excellent choice for those seeking a straightforward Google Drive replacement.
