Seeking advice on Atlassian admin job offer involving migration

Hey folks,

I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some input. A big company wants to hire me as their Jira/Confluence guru. Sounds great, right? But here’s the catch: they need to move their setup from Data Center to Cloud. They’ve got a bunch of plugins and about 500 users. Plus, they want to switch another ticketing system to Jira.

Thing is, I’ve never done a DC to Cloud move before. I’d be flying solo as the Atlassian expert there.

My current gig is stable Atlassian admin work, all Data Center stuff. But we just had major layoffs, so the future’s a bit shaky.

I’m worried I might mess up the migration and let them down. Are DC to Cloud moves always tough? Do you think the new company realizes it’s not just a few clicks?

What would you do in my shoes? The pay’s almost the same, just a tad more than I make now.

Any thoughts?

hey there, i’ve been thru a few migrations myself. DC to Cloud ain’t no walk in the park, but it’s doable with some elbow grease. The plugin situation might be tricky tho.

honestly, given ur current company’s layoffs, i’d say go for it. This new gig could be a real career booster. Just be upfront about ur experience level and ask for help if needed. You got this!

I’ve been through a few Atlassian migrations, and while DC to Cloud can be tricky, it’s definitely manageable with proper planning. The key is to start with a thorough assessment of your current setup, including all custom plugins and integrations. Atlassian provides solid migration tools and documentation, which will be your best friends during this process.

The integration of another ticketing system adds complexity, but it’s also an excellent opportunity to streamline processes. You’ll want to map out workflows and data structures carefully before making the move.

Don’t underestimate the time and effort required, but also don’t let fear hold you back. This kind of project can significantly boost your career. If you’re transparent about your experience and approach it methodically, you’ll likely succeed. Plus, you’ll gain valuable skills that are in high demand in the Atlassian ecosystem.

Given the layoffs at your current company, the new role seems like a smart move for long-term stability and growth. Trust in your abilities and go for it.

As someone who’s been through a similar situation, I can relate to your concerns. DC to Cloud migrations can indeed be challenging, especially with 500 users and custom plugins in the mix. It’s not just a simple flip of a switch.

That said, this could be an incredible opportunity for career growth. Migrations are hot skills right now, and successfully leading one could open many doors for you. Plus, the experience of integrating another ticketing system into Jira is valuable.

Your current company’s layoffs are a red flag. Even if you’re safe now, the environment might become stressful. The new role offers stability and a chance to expand your expertise.

My advice? Take the leap, but set clear expectations with the new company about the complexity of the migration. Be honest about your experience level and ask for resources or training if needed. Atlassian provides good documentation and support for migrations.

Remember, they chose you for a reason. Trust your skills and embrace the challenge. It’s how we grow in this field.
