Hey everyone! I’m heading to New Orleans for the first time next month and I’ve gone a bit overboard with my trip planning. I made this huge spreadsheet with food, drink, and activity ideas based on suggestions from this subreddit. I’m kind of a planning nerd and love doing this stuff!
I’ve already booked a few things:
- Commander’s Saturday Brunch
- Dinner at Brigsten’s and GW Finns
- Tickets for Preservation Hall, a ghost tour, and a Garden District tour
- Steamboat cruise (just the ride, not the meal)
The spreadsheet has a mix of Reddit comments, Google reviews, and some basic info. It’s still a work in progress, but I’d love to get your thoughts! Did I miss anything important? Any places I should skip?
I’m super grateful for all the advice people share here. It’s made planning so much easier! Let me know what you think and I’ll keep updating the list. Thanks!
Your planning is impressive, but don’t let it dictate your entire experience. New Orleans thrives on spontaneity. Consider leaving a few slots open for unexpected discoveries. Local recommendations or stumbling upon a lively street performance can lead to memorable moments. While your booked activities are solid choices, remain flexible. The city’s charm often lies in unplanned encounters and hidden gems you might miss if adhering too strictly to a schedule. Enjoy your carefully selected experiences, but also embrace the unpredictable spirit of NOLA. It’s this balance that often results in the most fulfilling trips to the Big Easy.
As someone who’s visited NOLA multiple times, I can say your planning is top-notch! You’ve hit many of the must-dos, especially with those restaurant bookings. One suggestion I’d make is to pencil in some time for Frenchmen Street. It’s less touristy than Bourbon and has fantastic live music venues. The Spotted Cat and d.b.a. are personal favorites.
Also, don’t overlook the city’s incredible museums. The National WWII Museum is world-class if you’re into history. And for a unique experience, check out the Backstreet Cultural Museum in Treme for insight into NOLA’s African American cultural traditions.
Lastly, leave some wiggle room in your schedule. Some of my best NOLA memories came from impromptu jazz sessions in random bars or stumbling upon second line parades. The city has a way of presenting unexpected delights when you least expect them.
wow thats some serious planning! i love it tho, wish i was that organized lol. sounds like u got some great stuff booked already. only thing id say is dont forget to leave some room for spontaneity - nola has a way of surprising you with unexpected fun! have an amazing trip!
