Hey folks, I’m racking my brain trying to remember this project management tool I used at my old job. It’s super similar to Jira but definitely not Jira. I’ve ruled out the usual suspects like Asana, Monday, and Smartsheet.
This software is pretty old-school, the kind big, traditional companies would use. For some reason, I have a hunch it might start with ‘R’ or have ‘notes’ or ‘task’ in the name, but I’m not sure.
Can anyone help me out with some suggestions for older project management tools that are Jira-like? It’s driving me crazy not being able to remember! Thanks in advance for any ideas you can throw my way.
could it be Redmine? i used it back in the day at my old company. it’s open-source and pretty basic, but gets the job done. has that old-school vibe ur talking about. not as fancy as Jira but similar features. just a thought!
Based on your description, you might be thinking of Remedy. It’s an older, enterprise-level ticketing and project management system that’s been around since the 90s. Remedy was widely used in large corporations and government agencies for IT service management and project tracking.
It has that classic, no-frills interface typical of legacy enterprise software. While not identical to Jira, it shares similar functionalities for task management and workflow automation. The ‘R’ in the name aligns with your recollection.
If Remedy doesn’t ring a bell, another possibility is Rally (now part of Broadcom). It’s been a staple in Agile project management for years, offering features comparable to Jira but with a distinct look and feel.
These tools were quite prevalent before the rise of more modern, user-friendly alternatives. Hopefully, one of these matches the software you’re trying to recall.
I’ve been in project management for over a decade, and your description rings a bell. Sounds like you might be thinking of Rational Team Concert (RTC). It’s an older IBM product that was pretty popular in enterprise environments before Jira took over.
RTC has that classic, slightly clunky interface that screams ‘corporate software.’ It handles tasks, workflows, and version control, much like Jira. The ‘R’ in the name fits your hunch too.
If that’s not it, another possibility is Redmine. It’s open-source and has been around since 2006. It’s got a similar vibe to Jira but with a more stripped-down, utilitarian feel.
Both these tools were go-to choices for many companies before the slicker, cloud-based options became prevalent. Hope this helps jog your memory!
