I’m about to start my third book and I’m worried about the rumors going around. People are saying Google Docs might be using our writing to train their AI. I can’t find any solid proof, but it’s making me nervous.
I love Google Docs because it’s so easy to use on different devices. But now I’m looking for something else that’s just as good. I’ve heard Scrivener might be a good choice. I don’t mind paying for software if it’s a one-time deal.
What I really need is:
Something that works on multiple devices
Easy to save my work as a PDF for printing
Has anyone else heard about this Google Docs issue? What are you using instead? I’d love to hear about your experiences with other writing software.
I’ve been using Notion for my writing projects lately, and it’s been a game-changer. It’s cloud-based, so you can access your work from any device, and it offers robust organization features. The export options are excellent, including PDF. While it has a bit of a learning curve, the flexibility it offers is worth it. As for security, Notion uses end-to-end encryption, which adds an extra layer of protection for your manuscripts. It’s not free, but the personal plan is reasonably priced and might be worth considering for your needs.
hey mate, i’ve been using obsidian for my writing lately. its pretty cool cause you can sync across devices with their cloud service. not as fancy as google docs but gets the job done and feels more private. you can export to pdf no prob too. might wanna give it a shot!
I’ve been using LibreOffice Writer for my manuscript work, and it’s been a solid choice. It’s free, open-source, and works across different platforms. While it might not have all the bells and whistles of Google Docs, it’s got the essentials covered.
One thing I really appreciate is that it’s offline by default, so you don’t have to worry about your work being accessed or used without your knowledge. You can save your files locally or use your own cloud storage solution for syncing across devices.
Exporting to PDF is straightforward, and the formatting options are pretty robust. It took me a bit to get used to the interface, but now I find it quite intuitive.
Just keep in mind that collaboration isn’t as seamless as with online tools, but for solo writing projects, it’s been more than sufficient. Plus, the peace of mind knowing my work isn’t potentially being used for AI training is worth the trade-off.
