Share your favorite and least favorite aspects of n8n compared to other automation tools

Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for the perfect automation platform and I’m really curious about n8n. I’ve played around with a bunch of different tools, from AI-focused ones to more traditional automation platforms. But I can’t seem to find that goldilocks solution that does it all.

I’d love to hear from you guys about n8n. What makes it stand out? What features do you absolutely love? And on the flip side, what drives you nuts about it? Maybe you’ve used it in the past or you’re a current user. Either way, I’m all ears!

I’m especially interested in how it compares to other tools you’ve tried. Does it handle AI stuff well? How’s the automation side of things? I’m trying to piece together the big picture here, so any insights you can share would be super helpful.

Don’t hold back - good experiences, bad experiences, I want to hear it all. Your feedback could really help me figure out if n8n is the right fit for my needs. Thanks in advance for your help!

As someone who’s been using n8n for a while now, I can say it’s been a game-changer for my workflow automation needs. The flexibility is unmatched - you can create simple flows or dive deep into complex setups with custom JavaScript. That’s a huge plus over other tools I’ve tried.

The open-source nature is fantastic too. Being able to self-host gives me peace of mind about data privacy, which is crucial in my line of work. And let’s be honest, the cost savings compared to some other platforms out there is significant.

That said, it’s not all smooth sailing. The learning curve can be pretty steep, especially when you’re just starting out. I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to set up more intricate workflows. The documentation could use some work too - there have been times when I’ve had to dig through forums to find answers.

Performance-wise, it’s solid for most tasks, but if you’re running high-volume workflows, you might need to do some tweaking. Overall though, if you’re willing to put in the time to learn it, n8n is incredibly powerful and versatile.

I’ve been using n8n for about six months now, and I have to say, it’s been quite the journey. The versatility is impressive - I’ve automated tasks I never thought possible before. The ability to use custom JavaScript within workflows is a game-changer, especially for more complex integrations.

One aspect I particularly appreciate is the growing library of nodes. It’s not as extensive as some other platforms, but it covers most bases, and new additions are frequent. The community is also quite helpful when you’re stuck.

However, I’ve found the UI can be a bit clunky at times, especially when dealing with large, complex workflows. It’s functional, but not always intuitive. Also, while the documentation is generally good, there are still some gaps that can lead to frustration.

Performance-wise, it’s been stable for my needs, but I’ve heard of others running into issues with very high-volume tasks. Overall, if you’re willing to invest the time to learn its quirks, n8n offers powerful automation capabilities at a fraction of the cost of some competitors.

n8n’s awesome for customization! love how i can tweak things with javascript. the open-source bit’s great too - saves cash and keeps data private. but man, that learning curve… took me ages to figure out some workflows. docs could use work. still, if ur willing to learn, its power is unbeatable!
