Spent 3 hours working in Figma - is this normal?

Hey everyone,

I’m new to using Figma and I just spent about 3 hours working on a design project. Is this a typical amount of time for beginners? I feel like I’m moving pretty slow and I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if this is just part of the learning curve.

What’s your experience with Figma? How long did it take you to get comfortable with the tool? Any tips for speeding up my workflow?

I’d really appreciate any advice or reassurance from more experienced Figma users. Thanks in advance!

hey dancingbird, don’t sweat it! 3 hrs is totally normal for newbies. figma’s got a learning curve, but it gets easier. took me a few weeks to feel comfy. tip: use keyboard shortcuts, they’re game changers. keep at it, you’ll be zooming through projects in no time!

Absolutely normal, DancingBird. When I first started with Figma, I easily spent 5-6 hours on simple projects. The tool is powerful, but it takes time to master. One thing that really helped me was creating a personal component library. I’d design common elements like buttons, icons, and text styles, then reuse them across projects. This dramatically cut down my design time.

Another tip: don’t aim for perfection right away. Get your ideas down quickly, then refine. It’s easy to get caught up in details early on, but that can slow you down. With practice, you’ll develop an eye for what needs attention first.

Stick with it. In a month or two, you’ll be amazed at how much faster you’ve become.
