Has anyone else noticed the new age verification requirements on Spotify in the UK?
I just found out that Spotify is now implementing mandatory age verification for certain content due to new regulations. This means users might need to go through ID verification processes to prove they meet minimum age requirements.
From what I understand:
- If you can’t prove you’re old enough, your account gets suspended and could be deleted permanently
- There’s some kind of email process if your account gets deactivated by mistake
- You have about 90 days to sort it out, but only 7 days once you reactivate to complete verification
- If verification still fails after reactivation, the account gets deleted for good
This seems like a pretty big change that could affect a lot of users. I’m wondering how this will work in practice and if other streaming platforms will follow similar approaches.
Anyone else dealing with this or have thoughts on how these new verification systems might impact user experience?
This happened to me last month - my account got flagged out of nowhere. I’ve used the same Spotify account for years with zero problems, so it blindsided me. Uploading my driver’s license was easy enough, just took a photo and waited a few days. But they never told me what content triggered the verification, which was super annoying. The 7-day window after reactivation is way too tight, especially when their team takes forever to respond. Don’t wait around if this happens to you - upload your ID right away. That 90-day countdown starts immediately whether you act or not. The whole system feels half-baked and ignores longtime users.
This feels like massive overreach. I’ve used Spotify for 6 years without problems, now they suddenly want my personal docs? Worst part - you don’t know what triggered it until it’s too late. My friend almost lost his entire account with years of playlists because he was traveling and missed their emails. They’re using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
I work in digital compliance and this rollout’s been a total mess across the industry. The verification triggers make no sense - some users get flagged for podcast content while others streaming explicit music don’t get touched at all. What really bugs me is they won’t say which regulations actually forced this change. The timing screams rushed implementation, like they’re scrambling to hit some regulatory deadline instead of building something that actually works. I’ve watched similar verification processes on other platforms drag on for weeks during busy periods, so that 7-day window is genuinely problematic. And threatening permanent deletion for what should be routine compliance? That’s way over the top. Other streaming services are definitely watching this trainwreck before rolling out their own versions.
Had the same nightmare - got hit with verification requests from multiple streaming services all at once. Doing manual uploads each time was a pain.
Saved my sanity by building an automated system that monitors my accounts and handles verification before it becomes a crisis. Used Latenode to track account status and auto-submit documents when requests come in.
It watches my email, pulls verification requirements, and uploads pre-approved docs to the right places. No more panic during those short response windows or losing accounts because I missed an email.
Works with any platform doing these verifications, not just Spotify. Set it up once and you’re done. Way better than playing whack-a-mole with each service.
