Hi everyone,
I’m thinking about leaving Google and Gmail behind. After looking into alternatives, Proton seems like a good option for email and VPN services, both for personal and business use.
I’m curious about your experiences with Proton. Has anyone made the switch? How does it compare to Gmail? Are there any drawbacks I should know about?
Also, I’m wondering if this change is really worth it. Will I just be trading one set of problems for another? Or is Proton genuinely better for privacy and features?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!
I switched to Proton from Gmail about a year ago and found the move worthwhile. The enhanced privacy was a significant improvement, as not having my emails scanned for ad targeting provides real peace of mind. Adjusting to the interface took some time, but its clean and functional layout eventually grew on me.
One compromise is the limited storage at the free tier, which pushed me toward a paid plan. Additionally, the search feature isn’t as robust as Gmail’s, and while the mobile app performs adequately, it lacks some of the advanced features found in Gmail. Overall, if privacy is your primary concern, Proton proves to be a valuable alternative, despite a few usability trade-offs.
switched to proton last year, no regrets! privacy is top-notch, but heads up - search ain’t as good as gmail. free storage is meh, so i went paid. interface took some gettin used to, but now i dig it. if u value privacy over bells n whistles, go for it mate!
