I recently found out that you cannot alter your Gmail address once it’s created, even if it includes a name you no longer identify with. I had hoped to update it because it still carries my past identity, but due to the extensive connections with various services and data tied to this account, starting over wasn’t an appealing option. Fortunately, there is the possibility to change the associated display name, which offers a small measure of relief.
I have been in a similar situation and found that determining the best method of transition largely depends on how extensive the connections with your current address are. The practical approach I took was creating a new Gmail account to better reflect my current identity and then gradually migrating services one by one. Although this process can be time-consuming, it ensures a clean break and better alignment with your current self while preserving crucial historical data on the old account.
i think its ok to keep the acct alive for legacy accounts while using the display name change casually. starting over is messy when too many links exist. after all, its abt balance - your peace of mind vs. the hassle of migrating every service
