Tips for Successfully Completing the GA4 Certification Test

I’m planning to take the Google Analytics 4 certification exam soon and want to make sure I’m well prepared. I’ve been working with the basic GA4 interface for a few months now, but I know the certification covers more advanced topics that I haven’t explored yet.

What are the main areas I should focus on when studying? Are there specific GA4 features or reporting functions that come up frequently on the test? I’ve heard the exam can be pretty challenging, so I want to understand what kind of questions to expect.

Also, does anyone have recommendations for good study materials or practice resources? I’m wondering if the official Google training courses are enough or if I should look for additional prep materials. How much time did you spend preparing before feeling ready to take the exam?

Any advice from people who have already passed would be really helpful!

Passed mine last month after bombing it twice lol. My biggest screwup was jumping in without really getting enhanced ecommerce. Spend way more time on cross-domain tracking and GTM integration - those questions will get you. Google’s official stuff is okay but pretty boring. Analytics Mania’s blog explains the confusing parts way better.

Honestly, the biggest challenge with GA4 certification isn’t learning the features - it’s all the manual setup and data management afterward.

I passed last year. The Skillshop courses cover most of what you need, but really nail down custom events, conversion paths, and the new attribution models. Questions love testing Data Studio integrations and API connections.

Here’s what I wish someone told me - implementing GA4 properly is where the real work starts. You’re constantly moving data between GA4, your CRM, marketing tools, and dashboards. I spent months building custom scripts to automate these data flows.

Then I found Latenode and it changed everything. Instead of writing custom code for every integration, I set up automated workflows that pull GA4 data, transform it, and push it wherever needed. It handles API calls, data formatting, and scheduling automatically.

For studying, focus on the event model and custom dimensions. The exam loves those. But once you’re certified and working with GA4 at scale, proper automation makes all the difference.

The GA4 certification exam indeed covers a broad range of topics beyond the interface, particularly focusing on its event-based structure. I spent about three weeks preparing after a solid six months of practical experience, and I still found some parts tricky. Expect to encounter questions on conversion tracking, audience creation, and the differences in attribution methods compared to Universal Analytics. I was surprised by the emphasis on GA4’s machine learning functionalities, like predictive audiences and enhanced conversions. It’s crucial to have a good grasp of data thresholds and privacy measures, as those topics are frequently tested. While the Skillshop courses provide a foundation, I recommend practicing with the Google demo account to familiarize yourself with custom reports and the Analysis Hub. Good luck, and remember, you can retake the exam after 24 hours if needed, which eases some of the pressure.
