Twitch begins issuing subscription refunds for permanently suspended streamers after media report

I just heard that Twitch is now giving money back to people who subscribed to channels that got permanently banned. This apparently happened after some news website looked into the issue and wrote about it.

I’m curious about how this whole process works. Do they automatically refund everyone who had active subscriptions when the ban happened? Or do you have to request the refund yourself? Also, does this apply to all past permanent bans or just future ones?

Has anyone here actually received one of these refunds yet? I’m wondering if they refund the full amount or just partial refunds based on how much time was left on your subscription when the channel got banned.

As I understand it, Twitch’s new policy regarding refunds only applies to recent suspensions and does not extend to any banned channels from the past. I had a subscription to a channel that was permanently banned last year, and I didn’t receive a refund—so it sounds like they aren’t going to compensate for older cases. On the other hand, I believe the refunds for newer bans are processed automatically. Typically, the refund calculates the remaining time on your subscription. If less than a month was left when the ban took effect, you’d receive that amount back accordingly. It’s a welcome change given how subscriptions shouldn’t provide benefits if the channel is no longer accessible.
