Warning: Avoid storing Gmail credentials on Runefest computers

Hey everyone, I’ve got an important heads-up for all Runefest attendees!

I just sat down to play at one of the LAN machines and noticed something pretty concerning. Some folks have been saving their Gmail login info right on these public computers. That’s a big no-no for your account security!

If you’ve done this already, don’t panic, but take action ASAP:

  1. Change your Gmail password right away
  2. Go to your Google account settings and log out of all other devices
  3. Enable two-factor authentication if you haven’t already

Remember, these are shared computers. Anyone could potentially access your personal info if you leave it saved. Let’s all stay safe and keep our accounts secure while enjoying the event!

Has anyone else noticed this happening? What other security tips do you have for events like Runefest?

This is indeed a serious concern. I’ve attended several gaming events, and it’s crucial to treat public computers like any shared device. One additional tip I’d suggest is using a password manager. It allows you to securely access your credentials without saving them locally. Also, if you need to check emails, consider using your mobile device instead of the event computers. It’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to personal data. Kudos to the original poster for bringing this to everyone’s attention.

Great catch, Alice45! I’ve been to quite a few gaming events, and this is unfortunately a common issue. One thing I always do is bring a small USB drive with a portable browser installed. That way, I can use my own secure setup without leaving any traces on the event computers.

Another tip: if you absolutely need to log into something, use private/incognito mode. It’s not foolproof, but it’s better than nothing.

As for the Runefest organizers, they should really consider implementing Deep Freeze or a similar software. It automatically wipes and restores the system to a clean state after each use. I’ve seen it used at other conventions, and it’s a game-changer for security.

Stay vigilant, everyone! It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about these things.

oh man thats so sketchy! thx for the heads up. i almost did that myself earlier tbh. gotta be more careful. anyone know if the runefest staff can wipe the computers between users? that’d be a huge help for keeping everyones stuff safe
