Looking for tracking solutions other than Google Analytics
Hey everyone! I’m managing a WordPress site and have been using Google Analytics for a bit, but I’m exploring other options that might fit my needs better.
I’m seeking a tool that can monitor user activity, page views, and interactions similarly to Google Analytics. Privacy has become a significant concern for me, so I’m curious about alternatives that focus more on privacy.
Has anyone here made the switch from Google Analytics to another tool? What have you tried, and how do they stack up? I’m especially looking for solutions that integrate smoothly with WordPress and aren’t overly complicated to set up.
I appreciate any suggestions you have. Thanks a lot!
Been there, done that. Most analytics tools just create more work - you’re stuck juggling platforms and manually exporting data all day.
Yeah, Matomo and Plausible are solid for privacy-focused tracking. But after managing dozens of WordPress sites, here’s what actually works: automate everything.
I built workflows that pull data from any source, clean it up, and fire off custom reports to whoever needs them. No more logging into five different dashboards or wrestling with CSV exports every week.
You can mix privacy tools with lightweight tracking and automate all the reporting. Your site stays fast, data stays private, and you get way better insights than Google Analytics.
This saves me 10+ hours weekly across all my sites. Instead of being locked into whatever crappy integrations each tool offers, you build exactly what you need.
jetpack stats is seriously underrated. it’s already built into most wordpress sites and covers the basics without adding external scripts that slow you down. sure, it’s not as detailed as ga, but it tracks pageviews, referrers, and popular content - which is plenty for most people. and it’s completely free, unlike some other options mentioned here.
I switched to Plausible last year because Google Analytics was driving me nuts - too complex and sketchy privacy-wise. Setup took 15 minutes on WordPress, super easy. The interface is clean and simple compared to GA’s mess of a dashboard with metrics I’d never touch. Way lighter script too, which actually sped up my site. Only downside is it costs money unlike GA, but the clean data and better privacy are worth the monthly fee for me. Goal tracking works great for contact forms and newsletter signups without jumping through hoops.
I made the switch to Fathom Analytics about eight months ago, and it has been an excellent choice. The setup was incredibly simple, requiring just one line of code. The dashboard is clean and focused, presenting essential metrics without the clutter often associated with Google Analytics. Privacy is priority here; it’s cookie-free and fully GDPR compliant. Additionally, my website’s loading speed has improved since Google Analytics was impacting performance. The data is accurate, updates in real-time, and the reports I send to clients are much more understandable, avoiding the confusion of unnecessary metrics.
