I’m looking for advice on choosing the right content management system for my new blog project. SEO performance is really important to me since I want to rank well in search results. I’ve been considering a few different options but can’t decide which one would work best.
Right now I’m thinking about headless WordPress since it’s popular, or maybe Filament with some additional plugins. But I’m also open to other CMS solutions if they’re better for SEO.
What do you folks recommend? What are you currently using for your blog content and how has your experience been with it? Any tips would be helpful.
I’ve been running several blogs for the past few years and went through this exact decision process. If SEO is your primary concern, I’d actually recommend sticking with traditional WordPress rather than going headless. The SEO plugins like Yoast and RankMath are incredibly powerful and mature, plus you get instant preview of how your content will look in search results. Headless WordPress can be faster but you lose a lot of the SEO tooling that makes WordPress so effective for content creators. Filament is great for admin interfaces but I wouldn’t use it as a primary CMS for blogging - it’s more suited for application backends. For pure blogging with strong SEO focus, traditional WordPress with a good caching plugin has served me well across multiple sites.
Having migrated from several different CMS platforms over the years, I’d suggest looking at Strapi if you want something modern but manageable. It strikes a good balance between the flexibility of headless architecture and ease of use. The SEO capabilities are solid when paired with a proper frontend framework like Next.js, and you get much better performance than traditional WordPress without the plugin bloat. Setup takes more initial work than WordPress but maintenance is significantly easier long term. The admin interface is clean and intuitive for content creation. One thing to consider though - make sure you’re comfortable with some technical setup or have developer support available, as it’s not quite as plug-and-play as traditional CMS options.
honestly i’d skip headless wordpress unless you really need that complexity. for most blogs its overkill and adds unnecessary hassle. have you considered ghost? been using it for 2 years now and seo is solid out of the box, loads super fast too. way simpler than headless setups but still flexible enought for customization.
