I’m trying to figure out how to track what customers do after they visit our online store and get that info into HubSpot. Right now it feels like we’re missing a lot of important customer behavior data that could help us create better targeted campaigns and follow up sequences.
I’ve noticed some people are using multiple different tools and trying to connect them together, but it seems messy and complicated. Has anyone found a smooth solution that actually works well? I’m looking for something that can help us segment customers based on their shopping behavior and set up automated responses.
What has been your experience with this? Are you getting the data you need or are there still important pieces missing from your setup?
HubSpot’s native eCommerce integration completely changed our data flow. We hooked it up to our Shopify store and now it automatically pulls in purchase data and tracks abandoned carts. This lets us create workflows that trigger based on what customers actually do, so our follow-ups are way more targeted. Our conversion rates jumped, especially from the abandoned cart emails. Just make sure you map your data correctly - otherwise you’ll get duplicate records. And sync your product catalog properly if you want dynamic email content to work.
We use HubSpot’s tracking code with custom events to capture way more than just purchase data. Set up custom properties to track product views, time on category pages, cart changes - stuff like that. It builds much richer customer profiles than basic purchase history alone. We trigger different email sequences based on how people browse. Someone checking out premium products gets totally different messaging than bargain hunters. Yeah, it took some technical setup upfront, but now our marketing team segments customers by actual shopping behavior instead of just demographics. Just watch out for data overload - we learned to be picky about which events to track or HubSpot turns into a cluttered mess.
