What's the current situation like at OpenAI?

Hey everyone. I’m a recent graduate who started working at Meta back in March this year. Because Meta didn’t do their usual team matching process, I got placed on a team that doesn’t really match what I want to do.

An OpenAI recruiter contacted me last week about an emerging talent role. I’m really into AI and MLOps stuff, but I’m curious about what it’s actually like working there.

Just so you know, work life balance isn’t my main concern as long as I can learn a ton. I figure OpenAI would give me way better chances to dive deep into AI plus it looks great on a resume. I’m planning to start my own AI company eventually, so getting experience at OpenAI seems like it could be a smart career move if they make me an offer.

Would love to hear what you all think about this. Any input would be really helpful!

I spent about eighteen months at OpenAI before jumping to a startup. The technical depth there is incredible - you’ll work with cutting-edge models and infrastructure that most companies are years behind on. Steep learning curve but totally worth it if you can handle the intensity. Just know the culture’s changed a lot as they’ve grown. It’s not the research-focused place it was a few years back. More corporate now, which has upsides and downsides. The emerging talent program is solid though, and you’ll get access to projects that’d take years to reach elsewhere. With your entrepreneurial plans, the network and tech knowledge you’d build there could be huge when you go out on your own.

totally agree! OpenAI is def a great place for AI lovers. just be ready 4 a fast-paced enviro. but those connections? they’ll pay off big time when you start ur own thing later!
