What's the effect of JIRA's Roadmap gadget discontinuation?

Hey everyone,

I just found out that the Roadmap gadget in JIRA is going away in May 2025. This got me thinking about a few things:

  1. Will we still be able to make Releases?
  2. Can we still change the Fix version field on issues?
  3. Is Atlassian planning to give us something else instead?

I use these features a lot in my work, so I’m a bit worried about how this might change things. Has anyone heard anything about what Atlassian’s planning to do? Maybe they’ve got a cool new tool in the works?

If you’ve got any info or ideas, I’d love to hear them. Thanks for your help!

As someone who’s been in the JIRA trenches for a while, I can assure you that Atlassian rarely removes features without a solid replacement strategy. The discontinuation of the Roadmap gadget is likely part of a larger plan to streamline and improve project management capabilities.

Releases and Fix Versions are core functionalities, so it’s highly unlikely they’ll be affected. Atlassian understands their importance to users like us. From what I’ve seen, they’re investing heavily in Advanced Roadmaps, which offers more comprehensive planning tools.

My advice? Start exploring Advanced Roadmaps if you haven’t already. It might take some getting used to, but it could ultimately provide better insights for your projects. Also, keep an eye on Atlassian’s official communications for any updates or new feature announcements in the coming months.

I’ve been using JIRA for years, and I’ve seen Atlassian phase out features before. In my experience, they usually have a good reason and a better alternative in the pipeline. While the Roadmap gadget is going away, I doubt they’ll remove core functionality like Releases and Fix Versions. These are pretty fundamental to project management.

From what I’ve gathered, Atlassian’s been pushing users towards their Advanced Roadmaps feature. It’s more robust and integrates better with their other tools. If you’re worried about losing visibility into your project timeline, you might want to look into that.

As for official announcements, I’d recommend keeping an eye on Atlassian’s community forums. They often post updates and gather feedback there. It’s also a good place to voice your concerns directly to the product team.

hey Emma, don’t stress too much! from what i heard, releases and Fix Version should stay put. atlassian’s probably cookin up something new to replace the roadmap gadget. they usually don’t axe features without a plan. maybe keep an eye on their blog for updates? just my 2 cents!
