What's your preferred hosting solution for self-hosted n8n?

Hey everyone! I’m trying to figure out the best way to self-host n8n. I know there are lots of options out there, but I’m curious about what you all use. What hosting service do you prefer? And if you don’t mind sharing, which plan are you on?

I’m on a bit of a budget, so I’m hoping to find something that’s a good balance between cost and performance. It’d be great to hear about your experiences - both good and bad. Has anyone found a hidden gem that works really well for n8n?

Also, if you’ve switched hosting providers, what made you change? I’m all ears for any tips or recommendations you might have. Thanks in advance for your help!

i use Linode for my n8n setup. their $5/mo plan works fine for me. setup was easy and performance is decent. only downside is ocasional downtime, but it’s rare. if ur tech-savvy, it’s a good budget option. just remember to backup regularly!

I’ve been using Hetzner Cloud for my n8n instance for about a year now, and it’s been a great experience. Their CX11 plan (1 vCPU, 2GB RAM) at around $3.5/month has been more than enough for my needs. The price-to-performance ratio is hard to beat.

Setup was pretty straightforward, though you do need some Linux knowledge. Their data centers in Germany have been rock-solid in terms of uptime. I’ve only had one instance of unexpected downtime in the past year.

One thing to watch out for is network transfer limits. If you’re running data-heavy workflows, you might need to upgrade to a higher plan. Also, like with most VPS providers, you’re responsible for security and updates.

Overall, if you’re comfortable managing a server and want to keep costs low, Hetzner is worth considering. Just make sure to set up good monitoring and backup solutions.

I’ve been running n8n on a DigitalOcean droplet for about 8 months now, and it’s been a solid experience overall. I’m using their $10/month plan with 2GB RAM, which has been sufficient for my workflow needs. The setup was straightforward, and their documentation is quite helpful.

One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to handle updates and backups yourself. I’ve set up automated backups to S3, which gives me peace of mind. Performance has been good, though I did notice some slowdowns during heavy usage periods.

If you’re comfortable with basic server management, DO can be a cost-effective option. Just be prepared to put in some initial work for configuration and ongoing maintenance. It’s definitely more hands-on than managed solutions, but the flexibility and cost savings have been worth it for me.
