What's your take on Discord music bots? Pros and cons?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on Discord music bots. I use Discord every day and want to play tunes in a few servers I’m in. But I don’t have Spotify anymore and don’t want to pay for YouTube Premium.

What music bots are you all using these days? I’ve heard some people talk about Kenku and Hangout. Others seem to be running their own bots. What do you like or dislike about the ones you’ve tried?

I’m curious about things like:

  • Sound quality
  • How easy they are to set up and use
  • What music sources they can play from
  • Any cool features they have
  • How reliable they are

If you’ve got any recommendations or warnings, I’d love to hear them! Thanks for your help!

I’ve been using Rythm for a while now, and it’s been pretty solid. The sound quality is decent, and it’s straightforward to set up. You can play from YouTube, SoundCloud, and even Twitch streams. One feature I appreciate is the ability to create playlists and save them for later.

That said, it’s not perfect. Sometimes it can be a bit temperamental, especially during peak hours. I’ve had issues with it disconnecting unexpectedly or lagging during playback. Also, the queue management could be better - it’s a bit clunky when trying to rearrange songs.

Overall, though, it gets the job done. Just be prepared for the occasional hiccup. If you’re looking for a reliable, no-frills option, Rythm might be worth checking out.

I’ve tried Groovy and it’s pretty decent. easy to use, plays from youtube n spotify. sound quality’s good most of the time. only downside is it can be slow to respond when servers busy. but overall, solid choice if ur lookin for a simple bot without too many bells n whistles

I’ve been running my own Discord music bot for a few months now, and it’s been a game-changer. The main advantage is complete control over features and stability. I can customize commands, integrate with any music source I want, and fine-tune the audio quality.

Setting it up took some coding knowledge, but there are plenty of guides out there. The best part is reliability - no unexpected downtime or feature removals like with some popular bots.

That said, it does require ongoing maintenance and hosting costs. You also need to stay on top of Discord’s API changes. If you’re tech-savvy and want a tailored experience, self-hosting is worth considering. Just be prepared to invest some time into it.

For those who want a simpler solution, Hydra has been solid in my experience. Good sound quality, supports multiple sources, and has some neat features like lyrics display.
