I’ve been using HubSpot Pro mostly (and some Enterprise versions) at smaller companies, and I keep hitting roadblocks when trying to do more sophisticated campaign analytics.
Some major issues I face:
Contact list restrictions (count limits, size caps, update timing)
Goal tracking boundaries
Platform connection problems like “contacts must complete a HubSpot form before Facebook remarketing”
I’ve also noticed that many people complain about attribution tracking. While you can improve it with workarounds, most SEM specialists end up using external tools and view HubSpot as a secondary system instead of their main campaign hub.
For marketers focused on performance using HubSpot:
Do these restrictions impact your daily work?
Have you discovered any clever solutions?
What other limitations bother you most?
I’d appreciate input from anyone managing large-scale campaigns or combining SEM tools with HubSpot processes.
After three years with HubSpot, contact scoring limitations drive me crazy. Their predefined framework just doesn’t work for complex B2B buyer journeys. You can’t properly weight interactions by campaign source or build sophisticated lead qualification models without major workarounds. The custom property limits kill me too - we’re always hitting the ceiling when tracking touchpoints for attribution analysis. And don’t get me started on the Google Ads integration delays. When your data’s hours behind, you can’t make real-time bidding adjustments. During high-conversion periods, every minute matters for budget allocation but you’re flying blind.
Those HubSpot contact sync delays are absolutely brutal. Spent months fighting similar issues where campaigns ran on completely stale audience data.
HubSpot’s the real problem - they lock you into their rigid workflow system. Need to trigger actions across multiple platforms based on user behavior? You’re stuck waiting for their native integrations that barely function.
I fixed this by building automated bridges between HubSpot and all my marketing tools. Someone hits a scoring threshold or completes specific actions? The system instantly updates Facebook Custom Audiences, Google Ads lists, email sequences, and analytics tracking. No more waiting for HubSpot’s painfully slow sync cycles.
Attribution tracking gets fixed too. You can pull data from every touchpoint in real time and build proper multi-touch models. No more guessing which campaigns actually convert.
For contact list limits, I automate dynamic segment creation and management. Stays within HubSpot’s caps but still lets me run sophisticated campaigns.
Basically turned HubSpot into one piece of a larger automated system instead of forcing everything through their limitations.

i hear ya! the slow data updates can be a real headache, and yeah, custom events in hubspot can be a hassle. GA4 just feels more intuitive for tracking flows. fingers crossed for some fixes soon!
The workflow automation limits are driving me crazy, especially with multi-touch campaigns. HubSpot caps how many workflows you can run and how many contacts you can enroll at once - it’s a nightmare during busy periods. The reporting dashboard won’t let you build custom attribution models unless you upgrade to Enterprise, and even then it’s pretty limited compared to actual analytics tools. API rate limits mess with real-time campaign optimization too. You can’t track UTM parameters properly on the lower tiers, so measuring performance across channels is basically impossible. I’ve ended up building custom integrations with outside tools, which defeats the whole point of having an all-in-one platform.
