Which is better for a tech sales career: Salesforce or HubSpot?

Hey everyone, I’m new to tech sales and could use some advice. I’ve got offers from both HubSpot and Salesforce, and I’m not sure which to pick. Here’s a quick rundown:

HubSpot:

  • MM AE II role
  • $82,890 base, $187,400 OTE
  • $26k in RSUs, $5k sign-on bonus
  • Fully remote

Salesforce:

  • GRB AE position
  • $80k base, $165,000 OTE
  • Stock and sign-on bonus (exact amounts TBD)
  • 4 days a week in Chicago office

I’m new to Chicago and don’t know anyone, so the office job could help me meet people. But I’ve been working remotely for years, so that might be a big change.

Which company do you think would be better for my career growth and earning potential? Any insights from those who’ve worked at either place? Thanks!

Having worked in tech sales for over a decade, I can offer some perspective on your dilemma. In my experience, both Salesforce and HubSpot are solid choices, but I’d lean towards Salesforce for a few reasons.

Firstly, Salesforce is a behemoth in the CRM world, and having that name on your resume can open doors down the line. Their training program is top-notch, and you’ll learn skills that are highly transferable across the industry.

The office environment in Chicago could be a blessing in disguise. I started my career in an office setting, and the relationships I built there have been invaluable throughout my career. You’ll pick up on sales techniques just by being around seasoned pros.

That said, the higher OTE at HubSpot is tempting. But in my experience, the long-term career prospects and networking opportunities at Salesforce might outweigh the short-term financial gain.

Ultimately, both are great options. Consider your long-term goals and which company aligns better with where you want to be in 5-10 years.
