I’ve been using Jira for both project management and issue tracking and have noticed some areas where it falls short. It’s a useful tool, but there are features I frequently wish were available.

the mobile app is trash for anything beyound just looking at tickets. try updating an issue or adding comments - it’s a nightmare. and why can’t we batch edit custom fields? updating 20+ tickets one by one when requirments change is soul-crushing.
After years with distributed teams, Jira’s dependency handling across projects is terrible. Multiple teams working on connected features? Tracking blockers becomes a nightmare. The dependency linking is way too basic - you can’t see how delays ripple through different projects. I maintain separate spreadsheets just to understand what bottlenecks actually impact. The board customization is another huge pain point. Can’t group by custom fields or create dynamic swimlanes based on business logic without tons of configuration. I’ve watched entire teams ditch agile boards because they couldn’t visualize work in a way that made sense for their workflow.
The lack of native time tracking visualization drives me crazy. Yeah, you can log hours on issues, but creating useful reports about team capacity and actual vs estimated time? You need expensive plugins or have to export everything to external tools. I’ve wasted countless hours manually calculating sprint velocity and team utilization - stuff that should just be there in dashboards. Time tracking feels tacked on instead of built-in. The notification system is broken too - it’s either spam or you miss critical updates. I want granular notification settings based on issue priority, component, or custom fields. That’d stop notification fatigue while making sure important stuff doesn’t get buried.
