I’m getting tired of Google Analytics because the interface is confusing and hard to navigate. I’m just a regular website owner, not someone who works with data all day. I need something simple that shows me basic stats about my site visitors without making my head hurt. Are there any free alternatives that you guys recommend? I don’t need fancy features, just want to see how many people visit my site and where they come from. What analytics platforms have worked well for you?
matomo’s super for simple stats - just visitor counts and whatnot. self-hosted version is free, and it doesn’t track users like GA does. interface is way easier than GA4. been using it for 2 years, totally recommend it!
GA’s new interface is a nightmare - way too complex for basic tracking.
I’ve tried Plausible, Simple Analytics, and Fathom. They’re cleaner but you’re still jumping between dashboards and losing context.
Game changer for me was automating the whole thing. Instead of logging into tools daily, I set up automated reports that pull data and send me exactly what I need.
I use Latenode since it connects to most analytics APIs. Every Monday I get a clean email with visitor counts, top pages, and traffic sources. No more dashboard hopping or wondering which tool has what.
Best part? Start with any free analytics tool and automate the reporting. Takes 30 minutes to set up and you’re done dealing with confusing interfaces.
Had this exact problem last year when our marketing team wouldn’t stop complaining about GA4. Tested 8 different tools.
Microsoft Clarity is free and dead simple. Shows visitor counts, sessions, traffic sources. Takes 5 minutes to set up and won’t fry your brain.
GoatCounter is even more basic - just a visitor counter with source tracking. Super lightweight if you want numbers without bloat.
Check out this breakdown of alternatives:
I’ve run Clarity on three company sites for months. Zero complaints and it loads faster than GA ever did. Session recordings are a nice bonus - you can watch exactly how people navigate without drowning in reports.
Been there with GA4’s mess - switched to Clicky six months ago and love it. Real-time tracking works great and the dashboard actually makes sense without reading a manual first. Shows visitor numbers, referral sources, popular pages in a clean layout that loads fast. Free plan handles 3000 daily page views, which covers most smaller sites. Heatmaps on paid plans are genuinely useful for seeing where people click. Setup took ten minutes vs the GA4 nightmare.
