Has anyone else noticed this change in Google Calendar?
I was checking my calendar today and realized that the special observances for Pride Month and Black History Month are no longer showing up automatically. These used to appear as default events in previous years.
I’m wondering if this is happening to everyone or just my account. Did Google make an official announcement about removing these cultural celebrations from their calendar system?
It seems odd that they would take away these important monthly observances without any notice. Has anyone found a way to add them back manually or know if there’s a setting I might have missed?
I rely on these calendar reminders to stay aware of important cultural months throughout the year.
Just checked mine after seeing this - yep, they’re gone from my default calendar too. Google randomly shuffles what’s in their base calendar feeds. Happened to me with other holidays before.
Go to Settings > Add calendar > Browse calendars of interest. There’s a “Holidays and observances” section where you can manually add cultural observances back.
Or just create your own recurring annual events. Takes 2 minutes and you control the reminders.
I’ve seen this at work too - corporate policies suddenly change what events get pushed to everyone’s calendars. Usually it’s some backend policy change, not deliberate removal.

that’s so strange, mine still has them. could it be a regional thing? check your calendar settings under ‘holidays and observances’ - google sometimes tweaks what you see. maybe they shifted those events to a diff calendar that you gotta subscribe to.
