I keep noticing more and more negative feedback about Notion across different forums and communities. There seem to be quite a few users who either switched to other tools or gave up on it completely.
I’m really interested in hearing about your personal experience with Notion. What specific issues or problems made you lose interest in it? If you were using Notion before but stopped, what was the main reason that pushed you to quit?
From my observations, many people seem to find Notion too complicated or confusing when they first try it, which leads them to abandon it pretty quickly. But I’m sure there are other reasons too.
Would love to get your thoughts and hear about what went wrong with Notion for you personally.
Performance wasn’t my main issue with Notion actually. What killed it for me was the database complexity that seemed unnecessary for simple note-taking. I started using it for project management but quickly realized I was spending more time setting up elaborate systems than actually getting work done.
The breaking point came when I needed to access my notes quickly during meetings and found myself clicking through multiple nested pages just to find basic information. The hierarchical structure that initially seemed powerful became a maze of interconnected databases and relations.
I also struggled with the mobile experience which felt clunky compared to the desktop version. Eventually moved to Obsidian for personal notes and kept using traditional project management tools for work stuff. Sometimes simpler is just better.
i totally get that! the laggy load times ruined it for me as well. i wanted a smooth experience for my notes, but i was just stuck waiting. switched to emacs and it’s been a game changer for speed, plus i love the offline capability!
