Notion has been my go-to app for personal projects for years. I really enjoy using it. But I can’t bring myself to suggest it for work stuff. Why? It’s always got these little problems that make it hard to use.
For example today I couldn’t add new pages to a Relation property. The auto-complete didn’t show the option to make a new page like it usually does. This kind of thing happens a lot with Notion. It’s frustrating.
There are also basic features missing. Like being able to share just part of a database easily. Other tools can do this no problem.
I know Notion’s been around for a while now. It should be more polished. I want to love it completely but these issues make it hard. It feels like it’s still a work in progress rather than a finished product.
Don’t get me wrong the new stuff like Charts is great. But for a tool that’s supposed to help with work it needs to be more reliable. Am I asking too much? Will Notion ever get to a point where it just works without all these quirks?
ive used notion for a while and yeah, its got issues. the relation thing bugs me too. but i think theyre trying to fix stuff. maybe not fast enough tho. i still use it for personal stuff but for work? not yet. they gotta step up their game and make it more reliable before ill trust it for important work stuff.
I’ve been using Notion for about three years now, and I can relate to your frustrations. While it’s an incredibly versatile tool, those persistent quirks can be maddening, especially when you’re trying to get work done efficiently.
In my experience, Notion’s strength is also its weakness. The flexibility that makes it so adaptable also seems to contribute to these ongoing issues. I’ve found workarounds for some problems, like using linked databases instead of relations for certain tasks, but it’s not ideal.
That said, I’ve noticed improvements over time. Features like AI integration and better database filtering have addressed some long-standing pain points. However, the core reliability issues you mentioned still crop up more often than I’d like.
I’m cautiously optimistic about Notion’s future. They seem to be actively developing and refining the platform. But I agree - for professional use, it needs to be more dependable. Until then, I’ll keep using it for personal projects while exploring alternatives for mission-critical work tasks.
As someone who’s been using Notion extensively, I share your concerns. The platform’s versatility is impressive, but the inconsistencies can be a real hindrance in professional settings. I’ve experienced similar issues with relations and database sharing, which has led me to maintain parallel systems in other tools for critical work tasks.
That said, Notion’s development trajectory is promising. They’ve made significant strides in areas like API access and performance optimization. However, the core usability issues you’ve mentioned persist, and they’re a significant barrier to widespread enterprise adoption.
In my view, Notion is at a crucial juncture. They need to focus on stability and refining existing features rather than constantly adding new ones. If they can achieve this balance, I believe Notion has the potential to overcome its current limitations and become a truly robust productivity platform. For now, though, it remains a powerful but sometimes frustrating tool.
