Yesterday's 'Gluten Free' document contains numerous gluten-filled items

Heads up, everyone!

I’m really worried about that ‘Gluten Free’ guide shared yesterday. It’s super misleading! :grimacing:

I checked out some of the places mentioned, like McDonald’s and Panda Express. Their official allergen info shows lots of wheat and gluten in the foods listed as ‘safe’. This guide is way off base!

If you’re new to eating gluten-free, please don’t trust that list. It could make you really sick.

Has anyone else noticed how weird and inaccurate this guide is? It’s like they didn’t do any research at all. I’m kinda shocked it was even posted here.

Stay safe out there, gluten-free friends! Always double-check ingredients yourself. :muscle:

Thank you for highlighting this issue, Alex_Brave. It’s concerning to see such inaccurate information being circulated. As someone who has been managing celiac disease for years, I can attest to the importance of verifying gluten-free claims independently.

I’ve found that relying on restaurant-specific allergen menus and contacting their corporate offices directly yields the most accurate information. Many chain restaurants have detailed allergen guides available on their websites, which are regularly updated.

It’s also worth noting that cross-contamination is a significant concern in many establishments, even if certain menu items appear to be gluten-free. This is particularly true for places like McDonald’s and Panda Express, where shared cooking surfaces and utensils are common.

For those new to the gluten-free lifestyle, I recommend consulting with a registered dietitian who specializes in celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. They can provide reliable guidance and help navigate the challenges of dining out safely.

omg guys, this is so messed up! :scream: i nearly ate some of that stuff thinking it was safe. thx for the heads up alex! we should totally report that guide or something. mayb we could make our own list? i know a few places with actual gf options if anyones interested

I appreciate you bringing this to everyone’s attention, Alex. As someone who’s been living gluten-free for over a decade, I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t always trust these types of guides.

In my experience, it’s crucial to do your own research and always check with the restaurant directly. Many places now have dedicated gluten-free menus or allergen information available online or in-store. I’ve found that speaking directly with the kitchen staff can also be incredibly helpful.

One trick I’ve learned is to use reputable gluten-free apps or websites that are regularly updated with accurate information. They often have user reviews and ratings, which can be more reliable than static guides.

It’s disheartening to see misinformation spread, especially when it could potentially harm people. Perhaps we could compile a list of trusted resources for the community here? That might be more beneficial than relying on questionable guides.
