YouTube Kids Algorithm Mishap: Misclassified Content Concerns

Hey everyone,

I’m feeling pretty bummed about something I noticed on YouTube Kids. It seems like their system is putting videos in the kids’ section just because a child shows up in them. That’s not cool.

For example, I love watching turtle videos. But imagine if a random video with a kid talking about turtles ended up in YouTube Kids, even if it wasn’t made for children. That’s kinda what’s happening now.

This feels like a big problem. Kids might end up seeing stuff that’s not meant for them. And creators might get their videos wrongly labeled.

Has anyone else noticed this? What do you think YouTube should do to fix it? I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on this mess.

i noticed that too, and it’s crazy how yt’s algo mislabels stuff. they really need to check vids instead of just tagging any video with a kid. could use more human mods for sure, it’s a real mess.

This is indeed a concerning issue with YouTube Kids’ algorithm. I’ve encountered similar problems while monitoring content for my nieces and nephews. The misclassification not only poses risks for children but also creates headaches for content creators. YouTube needs to implement a more nuanced approach to content categorization, perhaps combining AI with human oversight. They could also consider a system where creators can flag their content as not suitable for children, even if it includes young people. Ultimately, YouTube must prioritize child safety over automated convenience to maintain trust in their platform.
